Former drug lord Freeway Rick Ross, during a recent interview on The Joe Rogan Experience, slammed Rick Ross for allegedly taking after his name. Freeway insulted the rapper's longtime nickname, Ricky Rozay, calling his name feminine and saying,

"I'm the real Ross, Rozay sounds "feminine" to me."

Ross responded to Freeway's comments on social media saying,

"This gangsta informant (three tear-eyed laugh emojis) still lerks. @freewayrickross (mermaid emoji). Go put on a suit peon."

This isn't the first time Freeway has accused Rick of stealing his moniker. In June 2024, during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, when asked if anyone has confronted Rick about his name, Freeway alleged that Ross avoids him and "disappears" when he's around,

"Not in person, no. Anytime I'm around he disappears."

More about the feud between Freeway Rick Ross and Rick Ross

Freeway Rick Ross and Rick Ross have been beefing for over a decade, with Freeway repeatedly accusing the rapper of appropriating his name and using his fame without his consent.

Freeway was sentenced to life in prison in 1996 under the three-strikes law after he was convicted of purchasing more than 100 kilograms of cocaine from a federal agent. After his release in 2009, the former drug lord filed a lawsuit against the rapper, alleging trademark infringement. Freeway accused the rapper of profiting from his fame, to which the rapper replied by saying that his stage name was inspired both by Freeway and Miami's 1980s drug culture.

In 2010, the rapper won the case, with the judge citing artistic expression as a legal defense. In an interview, Freeway revealed that he owes Rick Ross' legal team $1 million for the lawsuit.

In the June 2024 interview with Rogan, Rogan questioned why people have not called out Ross using Freeway as an inspiration for his stage name since he's now a free man. Freeway mentioned that Ross' success played a major factor,

"These guys, they kind of...Like we talked about, when you got some money, they don't care if you beating women or making them lick tampons, you know everybody f**ks with you, right. He was on top of the world at one time."

He also added,

"How would you take my name and not have the decency to ask me? You should have asked. He won't admit that he stole the name."

After his release from prison, Freeway Rick Ross studied literature and other subjects while serving time in prison. He has also written an autobiography - Freeway Rick Ross: The Untold Autobiography
