The comedian and actress Rosie O'Donnell claims that U.S. President Donald Trump has been holding a grudge against her for close to 20 years since she roasted him on The View back in 2006.
At RTÉ’s The Late Late Show appearance, recently, Rosie O'Donnell in retrospect on their long-standing fight noted that Trump turned "very angry" after she lambasted him over some of his business records and personal controversies. In her words, he has "had it out for me" for 20 years, when she apparently told the truth about him on a program called The View.

Origins of the Feud
The public sparring match between Rosie O'Donnell and Trump started in December 2006 when O’Donnell, who at that time was a co-host of The View, expressed her dissatisfaction with Trump and all the controversies he has been involved with.
"I mentioned his bankruptcies and I mentioned all of the s**ual assault charges and I mentioned that he was not, in fact, the businessman that everyone thinks he is because of the show, The Apprentice, where they sold a bunch of lies to America for over 10 years and half of America believed it. And so he was very angry to say the least, and he hasn’t let it go. And he sort of uses me as a punchline whenever he feels the need."
O’Donnell went on to implicitly challenge his financial track record by pointing to his previous bankruptcies.

As a result, a series of heated exchanges took place between them on X, formerly known as Twitter. Their feud was revisited several times in the following years, intensified by Trump's rise in the American political scenario.
As for Trump constantly lashing out at her publicly, she commented,(As per reports by Entertainment Weekly),
"He’s been doing it for two decades and I’m still not used to it every time he does.”

Recent Developments on Rosie O'Donnell
Rosie O'Donnell has been a vocal opponent of Trump's policies. Early in 2025, she moved to Ireland with her youngest child, citing fears over the political climate in the U.S. after Trump’s re-election. According to her, the move was toward a less chaotic and peaceful ambiance.
"We really felt this was the safest and best thing for us to do and it looks like sadly, we were correct for what’s happening in the United States is overwhelmingly depressing, unconstitutional, illegal, criminal and so so very sad." - Said Rosie O'Donnell on a recent TikTok video.
In a subsequent meeting between Donald Trump and Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, a reporter questioned why Ireland would want her.
"Ireland is known for very happy, fun-loving people. Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland? I think she is going to lower your happiness." - A reporter asked at the meeting.
While Martin gently brushed the query off, Trump responded,
"Thank you, I like that question."
Trump nudged the conversation further by casually asking the Prime Minister if he knew O'Donnell and insisted he was "better off" not knowing her.
O'Donnell later called the moment "surreal" and said she was worried by what she perceived as a failure of diplomatic decorum.

Trump’s Response and Public Reactions
Trump hasn't directly responded to O'Donnell's recent remarks, but their prolonged public feud is a curious one between a political figure and a celebrity.
While O'Donnell has said she moved on from the fight personally, the record of their communications is still debated in journalistic and political circles.
