Robert Eggers' gothic horror adaptation Nosferatu is finally available on video on demand services starting today and on an even more exciting note, Count Orlok will reportedly soon be back with an extended cut! Fans will get to experience this thrilling adventure with Bill Skarsgård exclusively on Blu-ray, according to Eggers' statement to Esquire UK.

Nosferatu had its theatrical premiere on December 25, 2024, and has garnered quite some social media attention owing to the iconic long-running franchise. Moreover, the film has grossed over $156.3 million at the global box office and has also been well-received by critics. With an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score, the movie's success is owed to notable performances from a star-studded cast including Bill Skarsgård, Bicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Emma Corin, and William Dafoe.

Nosferatu to return with an extended cut in Blu-ray

According to Nosferatu helmer Robert Eggers' statement to Esquire UK:

"The first shot is a funny one because it's one of those annoying things for film dorks because it's not in the movie. It's a really cool shot, we really like the shot but where it was intended it was actually ruining some tension to know that Bill was around when we needed to keep him more mysterious. But if you wish to purchase the Blu-ray, it is in the extended version of the film."

Here he talked about one of the scenes in Nosferatu's trailer featuring Bill Skarsgård. The sequence, portraying a silhouette of Count Orlok, was excluded from the film and will now be added to the extended cut. The original film has a runtime of 2 hours and 12 minutes. So, the audience will supposedly have a close-to three-hour ride in the upcoming Nosferatu extended cut.

More about the Nosferatu franchise

Robert Eggers' Nosferatu is an adaptation of the 1922 silent film Nosferatu: A Symphony Of Horror which in turn is based on Dracula, a gothic horror character created by Bram Stoker. The movie globally premiered at Berlin's Zoo Palast cinema and was later released in the United States on Christmas Day.

Bill Skarsgård's performance as Count Orlok has gained Nosferatu quite some popularity among the audience. Following the current trends, fans will supposedly get to enjoy this classic gothic horror journey by March or April. Even though this is the longest-running Nosferatu adaptation to date, the extended cut in Blu-ray will surely bring more of Count Orlok!
