Rob McElhenney recalls the 'terrible experiences' he had on his debut film The Devil's Own
On the talk show show 'Hot Ones,' Rob McElhenney has opened his heart about his actual debut in The Devil's Own. Whilst munching on some zesty chicken wings, the actor shed light on a hurtful experience at the onset of his career.
McElhenney mentioned that he was at the age of only 18-19 when his first film was with the stalwarts of the industry. Only to be revealed later that his scenes did not make it to the final version of The Devil's Own.
Rob McElhenney, in the interview, states:
"That was one of the most humiliating and terrible experiences of my life, because it was my first job, my first acting job in a movie. I got to do a scene with Harrison Ford, I got to do a scene with Brad Pitt, I got to do a scene with Julia Styles, Rubén Blades, all these incredible actors. So it was like four or five different scenes. Then, the movie's coming out and I notice I don't get an invite to the premiere or the friends and family screening.."
He continued to further highlight about its emotional impact by talking about the collective excitement his family and peers had for the film.
He mentions how he discovered that his scenes were actually removed, without even him receiving a prior update.
"..but I am still starting out, I am like 19 or something, 18. And I am thinking 'I know I'll be fine'. So ofcourse, for a year, I am telling everybody I got this movie. Nobody believes me, cause I hadn't worked at all doing anything else. And then, we go to the movie. All my friends, everybody, my family buys tickets and I am just not in it, at all. They cut me completely out of the movie, didn't give me a heads up, nothing. They were all A-players, and I was a D-player on the ground. I wasn't even a player I was on the editing room floor."
Rob McElhenney ends the sharing on a light-hearted note by saying: "What else you got!"
In The Devil's Own, he was cast in the role of Kevin. Directed by Alan J. Pakula, the film follows the plot of an I.R.A. member and a police officer's worlds colliding, when the former disguises himself and enters the house of the latter.
Even though we could not witness Rob McElhenney in the film, the actor has progressed to make his debut in the John Travolta and Robert Duvall starrer A Civil Action (1998).
Rob McElhenney is well known for his work in Latter Days (2003), It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2005-present), Mythic Quest (2020-present), and many more.
