Richard Gere's career in the industry has been quite prolific. He started his career as a musician and went to college where he majored in Philosophy but had to drop out after getting a role in the rock musical Grease in 1973.

Although he is well-known for the 1990 hit Pretty Woman where he starred alongside Julia Roberts, other well-known works include American Gigolo and An Officer and a Gentleman.

As per Celebrity Net Worth, Richard Gere has a net worth of $120 million. He has been making headlines recently after he sold his Connecticut home for $10.75 million, following his decision to relocate to Spain. He had purchased the New Canaan property in 2022 from Paul Simon and Edie Brickell for $10.8 million, resulting in a slight loss on the sale.

Gere lived there with his wife, Alejandra Silva, for two years and had reportedly considered converting the property into a farm. Built in 1938, the home spanned 32 acres and included six bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a pool, extensive gardens, and a three-bedroom guest cottage, with distinctive period details throughout.

He has been a long-time advocate for Tibetan human rights and he co-founded Tibet House US, established the Gere Foundation, and served as Chairman of the Board for the International Campaign for Tibet. His support for Tibetan independence has led to a permanent ban on his entry into China.

In 2004, Richard Gere showcased his ballroom dancing skills in Shall We Dance?, a film that went on to earn $170 million globally. His next significant role came in 2007 with the semi-biographical film I'm Not There, where he was one of six actors portraying versions of Bob Dylan.

Richard Gere and Silva married in 2018 and had primarily lived in the US but expressed a desire to spend more time in Silva’s native Spain to be closer to her family. Gere described the move to Madrid as an exciting new chapter for them and their young children, Alexander and James.

Gere shared in an April 2024 interview with Vanity Fair Spain that he admired the Spanish way of life and the joyfulness of its people. He said,

“For Alejandra it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture. She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so I think it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers. In any case, I love Spain and I think your lifestyle is fabulous.”

Richard Gere also mentioned still owning a home in the New York countryside, indicating he plans to maintain some ties in the US.
