Pop group Pentatonix performed the national anthem at the NRG Stadium ahead of the Texans-Ravens game on December 25. The group managed to seamlessly blend harmonies without any instrumental backing.
Pentatonix was formed in 2011 and includes vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Matt Sallee, and Kevin Olusola. Avi Kaplan, the original bass singer left the group in September 2017 to pursue a solo career. He was replaced by Matt Sallee.
They have also won three Grammy Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After Pop Crave took to X to repost a video of their performance of The Star-Spangled Banner, netizens took to the comment section noting that they were not aware the acapella account that became viral on YouTube was real while also appreciating their vocal talent.

More about the members of Pentatonix
Pentatonix was formed when high school friends Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, and Mitch Grassi from Texas decided to audition for the NBC show The Sing-Off. When they learned that they needed at least 5 members to participate, the trio added Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola. However, after Avi Kaplan decided to leave the group, he was replaced by Matt Sallee.
Scott Hoying provides backup vocals and holds down the low end of the harmony as the group's baritone lead singer. He is married to Mark Manio whom he first met in Los Angeles in 2017. Kirstin Maldonado has been with the group for 13 years. She backs vocals and sings mezzo-soprano lead for the group. Kirstin is married to filmmaker and photographer Ben Hausdorff. Hausdorff has also worked with the group on various projects by helping them shoot music videos.
Mitch Grassi's duties in the group include backing vocals and being the counter-tenor lead voice of the group. The singer has kept his dating life fairly private and doesn't talk about his romantic life much. Kevin Olusola is a beatboxer who backs up vocals and is a tenor lead. Kevin is married to Leigh Weissman who he met through a mutual friend in 2017.
Matt Sallee, who joined Pentatonix in 2017 sings vocal bass and bass-baritone lead. He is married to Sarah Bishop.
