Paul Thomas Anderson’s Leonardo DiCaprio starrer film gets a release date

Deadline has reported that Paul Thomas Anderson's directed upcoming film will be released on August 8, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures. But the makers might change the release date so that the film can enter the Venice International Film Festival.

The film marks Paul Thomas Anderson's return to the director's chair after his 2021 film Licorice Pizza. Variety has reported that it has been made on a whopping production budget of $115 million, making it the most expensive film of Anderson's career. Leonardo DiCaprio is starring in the lead role.

The other cast members of the film include:

  • Regina Hall
  • Benicio del Toro
  • Sean Penn
  • Alana Haim
  • Teyana Taylor
  • Wood Harris
  • Shayna McHayle
  • Chase Infiniti

In a 2018 interview with The Playlist, Anderson spoke about his admiration for DiCaprio and refuted the rumors that the actor had passed on Boogie Nights. He said,

“I love Leo and loved him then because I was obsessed with Gilbert Grape. But backing up before that, ‘This Boys Life’ was a f*cking amazing film.”

In the same novel, he revealed that he will work with DiCaprio someday.

“Leo and I will work together one day and it will be the right thing, but it will happen.”

DiCaprio was last seen in the 2023 epic crime drama film that Martin Scorsese directed. Based on a namesake book, the film takes place in Oklahoma in the 1930s. It revolved around the murder of the Osage family members when oil was found in that area. The film also starred Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, and Jesse Plemons, among others. It had its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival and was released theatrically on October 20, 2023. The film failed to recover its production cost but was well-received by critics. Here's the synopsis of the film:

When oil is discovered in 1920s Oklahoma under Osage Nation land, the Osage people are murdered one by one - until the FBI steps in to unravel the mystery.
