Oscar-nominated director Luca Guadagnino, known from his recent works in Queer and Challengers, will reportedly work on a DC war film now with James Bond star Daniel Craig. The movie will likely be R-rated and this will be Craig's second project with Guadagnino within a very short span following Queer.
According to Deadline, Justin Kuritzkes (who also worked for Queer and Challengers) is already working on the script of Sgt. Rock. However, even though we do not have an exact release date, there has been word from Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic that Sgt. Rock will supposedly premiere in mid-2026. The movie is based on the story of the DC comic character Sgt. Rock (an army officer) was premised in the era of World War II-struck Europe.
Luca Guadagnino to feature Daniel Craig in DC's Sgt. Rock
Once again, we will see a highly intense team-up between Luca Guadagnino and Daniel Craig - but this time for a comic character. The rumors first surfaced in September 2024 that Guadagnino is initiating talks with DC to work on Sgt. Rock.
A month later, Daniel Craig reportedly joined the collaboration to be starred as the titular character. However, no deals have been finalized between James Gunn-Peter Safran's DC Studios and the Oscar-nominated filmmaker. The script is being worked upon by Justin Kuritzkes but further details of how the plot evolves have not been revealed yet.
The story is based on DC's Sgt. Franklin Rock, a non-commissioned officer who took part in World War II on behalf of Europe. Sgt. Rock is known for his combat skills and sniping techniques on the field. Even though he is portrayed as a superhero, he is just like any other human being with a highly developed sixth sense.
The character was crafted by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert in 1959 which eventually gained popularity from the famous Our Army At War issue of DC. Sgt. Rock's calm and composed outlook is an advantage besides the 'combat antenna' that helps him to detect any potential incoming attack from the enemies. Despite being a soldier, his street-combat skills are commanding and help him to dodge bullets very easily.
