In his new memoir, Growing Up Urkel, Family Matters child actor Jaleel White reveals that Bianca Lawson was his first-ever date and the latter used him for clout.
Jaleel was one of the most prominent stars during the 1990s. In his memoir, he looks back on his career, his relationship with fame, and his love life.
In one of the chapters, Jaleel mentions that he met Bianca when he was 16 at the NAACP Image Awards and took her on a date. He added that Bianca seemed uninterested during the date and only seemed interested when she needed money to play an arcade game.
He also noted that while they did go on a second date, their relationship fizzled after it. When he saw her on the set of Saved By the Bell: The New Class, he reflected on the encounter saying,
"I highly doubt my asking for her phone number would have gone the ssme way had my position in television not signaled a possible opportunity for her. I imagine ambition is what won me her phone number in the first place. And probably extended our knowing each other."
After Jaleel's words on Bianca Lawson were reposted by The Neighborhood Talk on Instagram, internet users defended Lawson claiming that she was too young.
More about Jaleel White's memoir
In his memoir, Growing Up Erkel, Jaleel White reflects on his life after he came to be known as the nerdy neighbor Steve Urkel from Family Matters.
During an interview with Andy Cohen while he was promoting his book, Jaleel White opened up about how he felt about his co-stars Joe Marie Payton, and Reginald VelJohnson's claims about him being handful on set.
"They're also over 70, and I've been told not argue with my elders from the time I was 12 years old."
The actor started appearing on the show when he was 13 and turned 22 by the time it ended.
