Jack Quaid's Nathan Caine was again seen trying to go John Wick in the final Novocaine trailer. The film is releasing on March 14, 2025, though it already had a premiere at 2025 SXSW, and reviews are already in. It currently sits with 88% critics' approval on Rotten Tomatoes.
The filmmaking duo Dan Berk and Robert Olsen are directing the film, known for their horror films like Villains (2019), Significant Other (2022), and more. They have also directed Body (2015).
Other than Jack Quaid, Ray Nicholson (Smile 2), Amber Midthunder (Legion), Betty Gabriel (The Purge: Election Year), and more are in the movie too.
Jack Quaid's character has a unique condition in Novocaine
The final trailer also shows Jack Quaid's character getting reluctantly into gruesome fights where the viewers are sure to feel the pain. However, Nathan Caine cannot feel it given his unique condition dubbed congenital insensitivity to pain (CIP), which makes an individual immune to pain.
Although he never thought of it, this condition of his becomes an upper hand for him in the story, as the plot explains. According to the plot as per IMDb reads:
"When the girl of his dreams is kidnapped, a man incapable of feeling physical pain turns his rare condition into an unexpected advantage in the fight to rescue her."
Considering this plot, it is exactly opposite to how we saw Jack Quaid in his recent movie, Companion, where he acted opposite Sophie Thatcher, who plays Iris. Quaid plays Josh in it plans something evil and eventually shifts the blame on his robo girlfriend. And later he wants to kill her.
In Novocaine, Quaid's character is a banker but that's not a career that's fulfilling to him. What happens next is sort of a dream to many boys out there, saving their crushes from an unlikely situation like a terrorist attack. In the film, it is the bank robbers dressed in Santa Claus outfits.
Now that's not all Novocaine is about. After the bank where Nate works is robbed, the detectives suspect him of being involved in the robbery. So now he has to save his crush and stay clear of those detectives at the same time.
Early reviews show that the film is worth a watch so that's one positive sign for the commercial success. According to Box Office Pro, Novocaine is expected earn between $12 million and $18 million in its opening weekend.
