Director Robert Egger's latest vampire adaptation, Nosferatu, has been a success and a recent report says that he is in talks for a new Labyrinth movie. The original film directed by Jim Henson was released in 1986, and brought in good box office numbers in the United Kingdom.

Recently, there have been reports about a Labyrinth reboot and Egger's role as director has only added fuel to the fire. As per a statement by the chairman of The Jim Henson Company:

"That is a project that we are very excited about."

Sony will lead the project along with Eggers according to Jeff Sneider of TheInSneider. Furthermore, Nosferatu's success has left fans excited and they now wait for an official confirmation on Robert Egger's new project

Jeff Sneider of The InSneider has reportedly mentioned that Robert Eggers will team up with Sony and Jim Henson Co. for a sequel of the 1986 film Labyrinth. The Jim Henson Company Chairman, Brian Henson, did not share any further details on the movie's production.

For now, speculations are building up surrounding these reports and we are yet to get a confirmation from Sony on what the future of the franchise looks like. It reportedly will be a sequel and director Eggers is already working on the script, as per the reports.

Initially, plans for a Labyrinth sequel were in place but could not be manifested due to star David Bowie's passing in 2016. Thus, the whole plan eventually lost momentum. Some speculations have also revealed that the new Labyrinth movie will be a reboot and not a direct sequel.

As per reports, multiple names came forward as to who will direct the new film. One of them was Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez. But, he stepped down in 2020 due to unspecified reasons. However, the project reportedly moved forward with Doctor Strange helmer, Scott Derrickson, but, the script was never finished.

Derrickson reportedly mentioned in a statement:

"I don't know what's happening with that. We never got the script all the way to a place where the studio wanted to make it, but I was very proud of the work that we did on it."

The original 1986 film Labyrinth by Jim Henson (father of Byran Henson) starred David Bowie in the role of Jareth, the Goblin King alongside Jennifer Connelly. The latter was cast as a young girl named Sarah who advances out in a world of fantasy to save her brother from the clutches of the Goblin King. Now, Robert Eggers has reportedly taken the lead, and will further build on the plot in this highly anticipated sequel or a reboot.
