Addison Rae, TikToker and media personality, dropped her new single Aquamarine on October 25. The song is an ode to self-discovery and flirtation, and is only her second single of the year, as it comes on the heels of her massive hit song Diet Pepsi.

Aquamarine is likely to come out as part of an album later on, but details about the same remain scarce. Rae has also been making headlines for making an appearance on Charli XCX’s Brat remix album and her Sweat tour.

In light of this many have taken to social media platforms to point out that barely anyone rememebers that the now-singer once dominated TikTok. As one user stated,

"and she did it so effortlessly no one even remembers she was ever a tiktoker."

Several others online saw eye to eye with the opinion:

"The way Addison Rae went from being a tiktoker to making some of the best music of the decade……. THIS IS GROWTH," one user cheered on.
"i’m going to be talking about this song to my great grand children," another user joked.
"the commitment to actually making good music like she didn’t just drop a lil debut ep and go back to tiktok she stayed being a good artist i can’t wait to see what we get from her," another user tweeted.
"some of her unreleased is a bop as well, i got it bad still on repeat," someone else shared.

Many others joined the discussion to opine as well:

"This too good— like woah. She started making hits outta nowhere," someone pointed out.
"Exactly and I don't get why people still throwing hate to her, like she's serious about this," someone else penned.
"i’ve never send a re brand like this in my LIFE, and the way she is giving it her all, looks like she’s having fun, and the music is amazing ??? she’s the most exiting in pop right now," one user commented.

While the masses were generally pleased with Addison Rae's reinvention, a handful of those online brushed her songs off as nothing but noise.

Addison Rae credits Charli XCX for influencing her career

Addison Rae took to all her social media channels to let fans know that the cat is out of the bag. In posting a snippet of the music video, directed by Sean Price Williams, she wrote:

"Aquamarine is officially out everywhere!!!!! I wrote this song earlier in the year with my beautiful friends, Luka & Elvira, not long after writing Diet Pepsi! Oh and we shot the music video in PARIS!!! Ahhhhhh!! I hope when you listen you can lose yourself and feel freeeeeeeeeee. Second times the charm!”

Upon hearing the news, Charli XCX took to X to gush over her friend. She retweeted the announcement, while the caption referred to Addison Rae as a "genius."

In speaking of their friendship and how Charli has proved pivotal in inspiring her, Rae pulled up Instagram to pen a heartfelt note:

"@charli_xcx you are one of the most inspiring, contagious, beautiful, magnetic people I know. I am so thankful for you. You’ve been unbelievably generous and humble and kind, even when you have no reason to be. You are truly everythingggggggg."

Charli sent the love back in an appearance on Jake Shane‘s podcast Therapuss in March 2024. She said,

"She writes exactly like me, when I work with her it’s like working with myself.

Addison Rae released her debut EP in August 2023, which also featured her friend, singer Charli XCX on the track 2 Die 4. The collaboration was a chart-dominating hit, and one year later, she released Diet Pepsi.
