For the unversed, The Surfer stars Nicolas Cage playing the role of a man who returns to a picturesque beach with his son to surf with him. However, what happens next turns the story into a psychological thriller. Written by Thomas Martin, Lorcan Finnegan directed the movie. It currently has a 6.5 rating on IMDb.
Why was Nicolas Cage facing a lawsuit filed by his ex Christina Fulton?
Actress Christina Fulton, who is known for movies like Bram Stoker's Dracula and The Doors, filed a lawsuit against her son Weston Cage, whom she shares with Nicolas Cage. He is the eldest son of the 61-year-old actor.
In the lawsuit, filed by Fulton, the actress initially dismissed the reports of the conflict between her and her son. However, she later claimed that her son "assaulted" her in her building's elevator, parking lot, and lobby. The altercation allegedly caused her emotional, physical, and economic harm.
According to People Magazine, Fulton has also referenced Weston's history of "mental and psychological disorder" and also his alleged history of assault and battery.
For the unversed, Western Cage has always been open about his struggles with substance abuse and also his reckless behavior. Mentioning his history, his mother mentioned in the lawsuit that he should receive the help that he "desperately needs."
How did Nicolas Cage enter this lawsuit? Fulton accused his former partner of allegedly helping their son with his lifestyle. The lawsuit, per People Magazine, read,
"Weston has a long history of mental and psychological disorder and a history of committing violent assault and battery and harming numerous individuals."
"Nicolas has been aware of Weston's history and nevertheless failed to take action to prevent Weston from committing acts of violence and harming others."
However, Weston's attorney, in a statement to the magazine, wrote that Nicolas Cage had "absolutely nothing to do with Weston’s emotional state or condition leading up to the incident with his mother, Christina Fulton."
As a result, according to Entertainment Weekly, Fulton's attorney filed the dismissal of Cage from the lawsuit on March 7. The request was granted four days later. The dismissal of the actor from the lawsuit means that Fulton will not be able to bring all the claims against him in the case. However, Weston is still facing the claims and allegations.
Neither Weston nor Fulton has so far shared a statement regarding the same.
