"Lord of War" - Nic Cage's long-awaited sequel gets the first happy update in years. Fans of the 2005 “Lord of War” film are finally rejoicing. This is to say that the sequel which had been delayed and under wraps for a long time, is definitively moving ahead.
Known famously for his role as Pennywise the clown in “IT”, actor Bill Skarsgård, who is fastening his seat belt to join Nicolas Cage in the “Lord of War” sequel, disclosed a stirring update in an interview that happened not too long ago, disclosing that the film's production is all set to commence in the year 2025.
Penned and directed by Andrew Niccol, the first “Lord of War” film confronted the eerie world of international weapon and ammunition dealing, which brings out one of Nicolas Cage’s most distinguished performances.
However, after approximately two decades, the sequel to the first, tentatively titled “Lords of War”, indicates that it will pick up where the previous original film ended, while also delving into new and challenging themes.
Bill Skarsgård joins the “Lord of War” sequel:
Bill Skarsgård, following his recent performance in “Nosferatu” (2024), will be taking up the role of a character named Anton Orlov, the morally muddled and illegitimate offspring of Nicolas Cage’s character, Yuri Orlov in the sequel to “Lord of War.”
As accounted by The Collider, Skarsgård recently spoke about the sequel and Nicolas Cage and he articulated his enthusiasm to work on the “Lord of War” sequel alongside Nicolas Cage. On a podcast called Happy, Sad, and Confused, Skarsgård says –
“[Nicolas Cage] is a legend. And it looks like it’s happening next year (referring to 2025) … It’s a great script and I think it’ll be a fun one. The character, he’s a charismatic f**king a**hole. And you saw the first one… It’s so cynical and so satirical and bleak and like everyone’s terrible, and it’s also kind of a dark comedy… I like that. I like when you laugh at terrible people… So, I think that’ll be a fun one.”
Reportedly, Bill Skarsgård’s character Anton Orlov as a character comes across to be topping his father’s illegal arms business – but this time rather with a much more detrimental scene. Anton supposedly accelerates the business by creating a mercenary army. This rivalry and strained relationship between a son and a father, is reportedly set to apply a further layer of density to the “Lord of War” sequel, bringing in an obstruse storyline crammed with conflict and social commentary.
Nicolas Cage and director Andrew Niccol are back again for the sequel of “Lord of War”
Nicolas Cage’s depiction of his character Yuri Orlov continues to be one of his most hailed performances, marking his comeback as the scandalous arms dealer a vastly awaited affair. “Lord of War” notably confronted the trade of arms within the international market, intermingling dreary practicality with sprinkles of humor that is on the darker ends.
Director Andrew Niccol, who steered the first “Lord of War” film, is back and all set to helm the sequel, which in turn guarantees the film’s steadiness in terms of direction and storytelling techniques while also escalating its possibility for more detailed narrations.
