A Minecraft Movie is gearing up for a theatrical release on April 4. Ahead of the premiere, a new clip from the movie has arrived online, showing its three central characters stumbling upon something special. Watch it here:
The clip shows Jack Black's Steve entering a stash room. Jason Momoa joins him as Garrett Garrison, along with a young kid. Steve shows them a collection of TNT, firework rockets, boots of swiftness, a full set of diamond armor, and a collection of blades. He believes they will need all these tools to head to the woodland mansion and hints at an epic journey ahead.
Steve is an expert crafter, while Garrett is the garbage man. They both get transported to the game's pixelated world. The newly released clip shows them during their journey in this alternate world, with Steve seemingly proud of his incredible collection. It lights up the eyes of Henry (Sebastian Hansen), the kid who tags along with him.
The clip appears to be the latest part of the promotional campaign for this Warner Bros. project. The film has already released two trailers—the first in November 2024 and the second at the end of February 2025. The latest clip offers a brief glimpse into what awaits the audience.
A Minecraft Movie: The Live-Action 'Minecraft' movie brings Jack Black in another entertaining role
Jack Black returns to the screen with A Minecraft Movie, marking his second collaboration with director Jared Hess. The two previously worked together on Nacho Libre, a bonkers, colorful comedy film that showed Jack Black's character learning to be a luchador. It might have played a part in his casting; however, some video game fans were reportedly unsatisfied with this decision.
Mojang Studios' Torfi Frans Ólafsson stands by their decision to cast Jack Black. In line with this, he told Variety:
“This is not my Steve or your Steve — this is Jack Black’s Steve. A lot of fans responded when they saw the first teasers and trailers, like, ‘Hey, wait a minute — this is just Jack Black. This isn’t Jack Black being someone else.’ And maybe it is, because this is literally him interpreting this character and what it means to him.”
While working on the film, the School of Rock star became highly invested in the game. Ólafsson notes:
“He (Jack Black) was just completely manic, hoarding stuff in the mines, searching for lapis lazuli (bright-blue stones) because he liked the way it sounds,”
The latest clip offers a glimpse into the live-action Minecraft movie, which also stars Jason Momoa, Sebastian Hansen, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Jennifer Coolidge.
