Johnny Depp’s former attorney, Camille Vasquez, has put an end to the dating rumors between her and the actor. During a conversation with Extratv on November 1, 2024, Vasquez mentioned that her parents informed her about the rumors circulating.
She admitted that though she was not particularly drawn to Johnny Depp’s work, she felt a distinct impression during their first meeting. As they spoke for a while, she found herself unexpectedly captivated by his unique perception of the world. Camille Vasquez said:
“Let me just go on the record here. Never dated Johnny Depp, never would date Johnny Depp. I think he is a lovely person.”
She continued,
“He is not my type.”
Vasquez admitted she hadn’t watched much of Depp’s work, aside from possibly Chocolat. When host Billy Bush inquired if she had seen him in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean films, she confirmed that she still hadn’t watched them.
Following the high-profile televised trial, the jury sided with Johnny Depp, concluding that Heard had defamed him. Though she initially appealed, Heard later withdrew her appeal after they settled in December 2022.
Vasquez mentioned that she has stayed in touch with Depp through a group text thread. In June 2023, Camille Vasquez shared with People Magazine that she last spoke with Depp over the phone a few months back, though they keep in touch through a group text and emails.
Camille Vasquez worked on several high-profile cases after Johnny Depp’s trial
Since the Depp trial, Camille Vasquez has taken on multiple prominent cases and was also appointed as a legal analyst for NBC News. She represented NBA player Richaun Holmes of the Sacramento Kings and Latin pop artist Gloria Trevi. Vasquez also won a case in court with Yellowstone actress Q'orianka Kilcher in February 2023.
Reflecting on her journey, she expressed that while she expected changes in her life, she hadn’t anticipated the remarkable opportunities and clients she had the privilege of representing.
In a piece by Vanderbilt University, Vasquez mentioned that when handling high-profile cases, she focused on shifting public perceptions, noting that people often have a fixed image of celebrities.
Her role, she explained, involved helping reshape those narratives. For Johnny Depp, the priority was restoring his reputation rather than seeking financial damages. "All anyone has is their name," she shared, describing her objective as helping Depp reclaim his.
Preparing for Depp’s retrial was a massive undertaking that spanned nine months, with thousands of hours of preparation and over eighty depositions. Camille Vasquez assembled a youthful team she felt could fully appreciate the weight of domestic abuse claims, particularly in light of Amber Heard’s op-ed in The Washington Post.
She stressed the importance of public perception, pointing out that in today’s digital age, “winning in the court of public opinion” is essential, as a single social media post can sway a case's narrative.
