The era of video games being adapted into thrilling, action-packed movies is never-ending, and we're absolutely here for it. After the success of Arcane, Unchartered, and Sonic The Hedgehog, fans can now gear up to watch PlayStation's Sifu on screen as Netflix is all set to create a film around the video game that will be produced by Chad Stahelski, who is known for directing the John Wick films.

Created by Sloclap, the video game follows the players as they avenge their father's death, who was killed by a bunch of mercenaries led by Yang. The title of the game refers to the father's profession, who was a martial arts master. The game features intense action and martial arts combat and is an adrenaline-packed experience that has received much love and acclaim from fans.

T.S. Nowlin is writing the script while Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg are producing it. The duo made a statement about the project and said

"From the moment we played, we knew this had all the makings of an unforgettable cinematic experience—pulse-pounding action, deep emotional stakes, and a unique take on martial arts storytelling. Teaming up with 87Eleven Entertainment, the best in the world when it comes to action filmmaking, is a dream come true. Their mastery of choreography and visceral storytelling is the perfect match to bring SIFU to life on screen. With Netflix behind us, we’re ready to deliver an action film unlike any other."

The adaptation was first announced back in 2022 by Deadline, who described the project as JOHN WICK meets M. Night Shyamalan’s OLD. As of now, Netflix has acquired the rights to the film and will host its streaming.

More details on Sifu

The protagonist of Sifu swears revenge on their father's killers and trains for eight years at the kwoon. After eight years of training, the protagonist embarks on a journey to kill their father's murderers. The twist is that our hero is reborn every time he dies because of a magical talisman, but it comes with the cost of him aging with each use. And if he ages too quickly, his mission will be incomplete and he will succumb to death.

However, Netflix isn't the first studio to bring Sifu to life. Sifu is one of the many video game titles that inspired a few episodes of the Prime Video anthology series Secret Level. However, Prime Video's style of adaptation was an animation that stayed true to the original series and Netflix's project is a full-fledged live-action adaptation.
