Alfred Hitchcock is a filmmaker who has been involved in suspense thriller films for several decades. Some of his films include Psycho, Rear Window, North By Northwest, and The Birds, among others. Hitchcock directed more than 50 films in a career that spanned around six decades.
Now, fans who have been wanting to watch his films on the internet might get excited with this news. Netflix has decided to release a collection of films by Hitchcock on its streaming service. The inclusion of his films in their library will mean millions of people will get to watch them. So let us find out the details.
Netflix to bring Alfred Hitchcock collection to the small and big screen
Netflix will be bringing several of Alfred Hitchcock's films to their platform in the month of June. People in the United States will be able to watch films like The Birds, Vertigo, The Man Who Knew Too Much and Rear Window, among others, from June 1, 2025.
Currently, the streaming platform has Hitchcock's 1960 horror film Psycho. Apart from that, Netflix will also show these films at the Paris Theater (owned by Netflix since 2019), which is situated in New York City, for six weeks as part of a series. The collection will also include Sacha Gervasi's film Hitchcock, which is based on the director, as well as other horror films like Barbarian and Us.
Additionally, the theatre will be showcasing the program called "HITCH! The Original Cinema Influence". This will be done in association with the New York Film Critics Circle. It will run between 16 May and 29 June. It will consist of over 50 films, out of which 36 will be by Alfred Hitchcock. Other films that will be shown in 35mm format in the theatre are The Bride Wore Black and Dialbolique. Netflix bought the New York theatre in 2019 and it consists of 545 seats.
Earlier, Netflix chief Ted Sarandos had said that the movie-going experience has become outdated for viewers. When asked about why they bought the theatre, Sarandos said:
“We didn’t save it to save the theater business. We saved it to save the theater experience.”
In an official statement, Netflix said about the Alfred Hitchcock collection:
"Horror and suspense continue to dominate entertainment and we’re tracing back to the roots of this enduring appeal. The influences that Hitchcock drew from and the techniques he pioneered during his career still cast a long shadow over modern audiences’ ever-growing thirst for thrills and chills. Visit the Paris Theater or tune in to Netflix to rewatch a classic favorite or discover a Hitchcock film for the first time."
