Steven Soderbergh's upcoming horror flick Presence has a new trailer now as its US-wide release nears. It gives the users a fresh take on what they can expect from the film where the camera is the ghost. In contrast to the past looks, it was more tense as it showcased what this entity can do.
It first premiered almost a year ago at the Sundance Film Festival and was met with much praise from critics. It sits afresh at an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while the IMDb audience has given it a lower rating comparatively.
What did the new Presence trailer have in it for us?
The trailer begins with the phantom going downstairs and seeing Chris Sullivan's character sitting on a couch from a distance as his son arrives. It cuts to the next scene, where this woman tells the family that there is a presence in their home trying to connect to them.
In another scene, the phantom sees her in a cupboard, where fans notice some energy pulling the items sitting above, which eventually fall before the trailer cuts to the next scene. We can hear the voices that indicate that the family is fighting over something.
Chaos ensues, as in another scene, Eddy Maday's Tyler is seen running upstairs, and the phantom is on him. And electricity around the home fluctuates. It ends with one of the scenes where the family is sitting at a dining table, discussing things with each other.
The plot is under wraps for now, and the only thing we know about Steven Soderbergh's film is that it is about a family that moves into a house haunted by a phantom. We won't be seeing this ghost as it is told (more like shown) from their perspective only. In a way, a viewer is the phantom.
It was filmed entirely in a house located in Cranford, New Jersey, which has been home to a number of horror flicks like The Amityville Horror, Friday the 13th, Jacob's Ladder, and more.
Soderbergh said his inspiration came from a reality TV show called Celebrity Ghost Stories, one of his favorite shows to this date. Apart from Steven, the main people involved in the film include David Koepp, Julie M. Anderson, Ken Meyer, and more.
Presence stars Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, Chris Sullivan, and more in the film, which is scheduled to be released on January 24, 2025.
