The official trailer of The Monkey was released on January 16, 2025, and it runs for two minutes and 12 seconds. The story revolves around Hal and Bill, who are twin brothers. One day, they discover a toy monkey in the attic of their house. But that kickstarts some horrific events around them that are linked to the toy. The official synopsis of the film mentions,

"When twin brothers Bill and Hal find their father's old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths start. The siblings decide to throw the toy away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years."

The storyline takes a turn when the twin brothers decide to throw away the seemingly cursed toy and move on with their lives. However, situations force them to join hands again to end the cycle of horrific events.

More about The Monkey

James Wan, known for directing films like The Conjuring and Saw, is one of the producers of The Monkey, along with Michael Clear, Chris Ferguson, Dave Caplan, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones. Neon is distributing the film while the production companies are Black Bear Pictures, Atomic Monster, Stars Collective Films, Oddfellows Entertainment, and C2 Motion Picture Group Range. The official poster of the film was released last year and featured a toy monkey staring at the screen with its wide eyes.

In 2024, Perkins collaborated with Neon for Longlegs which starred Nicholas Cage. It emerged as a major commercial success for both Neon and Perkins. He had previously tried his hand in the horror genre with films like Gretel & Hansel and The Blackcoat's Daughter.

Since Stephen King's writing is well-liked by filmmakers, The Monkey is the latest adaptation to grace the screen. Carrie, Cujo, The Shining, and The Shawshank Redemption are a few of the movies that are adapted from the author's work. The Monkey might also attract viewers who have already read the source material as well as horror fans.
