Mufasa: The Lion King gave us a live-action version of the titular Mufasa and not-so-great Scar, who we came to know in the film has a name, Taka. Though the ones who've read A Tale of Two Brothers already know that name. Kelvin Harrison Jr. was behind the lion which would eventually become the reason for Mufasa's demise in the original story.
Recently, he sat down with Collider and discussed with them if he would be reprising his role, should Disney choose to make another film in the franchise. He said,
"I've been a big fan of that movie. It's one of my favorite Disney movies. Scar is definitely one of my favorite Disney villains. So that was really fun to play with and to work with Barry [Jenkins] on the movie was a dream because I've always wanted to work with him as well. It was a blessing so I was grateful I got to go on that journey and I don't know about prequels, sequels, or anything else, we'll see. Disney keeps their stuff on lock."
Following the release, Mufasa: The Lion King was met with mixed reception but it exploded at the box office. As of now, the film has garnered $718 million against its $200 million budget.
What other stories other than Mufasa: The Lion King can allow Kelvin to reprise his role?
While his major role is seen in The Lion King arc, he does appear slightly in some other stories. Only if we can see live-action remakes like Disney has been doing lately is there a chance Kelvin Harrison Jr. can reprise his Mufasa: The Lion King role in the future.
But those stories won't be a continuation for the 2019 remake, given those hyenas made sure he is gone for good. In the 1998 sequel to the original animated story, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, Scar appears briefly; that too is from the past, given his demise.
In this story, Mufasa: The Lion King character is survived by his followers with Zira being the most loyal one. We haven't seen Zira in the live-action films so this certainly is one instance to bring the character back. However, we should consider the fact that Chiwetel Ejiofor also played the character and his version is most likely to appear in a potential sequel.
Other than that, we have Timon and Pumba who still need that much-needed screen time and a live-action remake would be another instance of Scar appearing again.
