MSNBC hosts Nicole Wallace, Rachel Maddow, and Lawrence O'Donnell hopped on to The ReidOut's final broadcast on February 23 to bid goodbye to host Joy Reid.

Maddow was the first to begin and said:

"First, I want to say I love you Joy, and I am beref that TheReidOut is ending. I really I just can't even I sort of can't get beyond that. So I want to say that."

She advised Joy to find people who she respects, trusts, loves and can find common ground with. Reid appreciated Maddow's praise and unofficially knighted her as the network's "fearless leader."

Then Wallace took to the podium saying:

"And I think my reaction to the end of 'The ReidOut' and your departure is despair. And the only thing that chips away at that for me, is that despair is the autocrat's tool."

O'Donnell wrapped up the goodbyes and said that it had been "an honor" to work with Reid while highlighting her accomplishments over the years.

Reid's 7 p.m weeknight show, The ReidOut, begun in 2020 and covered political news, current events and high profile interviews. As per Fox News, the program struggled with declined ratings and averaged 973,000 viewers in February 2025 from the 1.3 million viewers it drew in February 2024.

The show has been cancelled as a result of a major programming shake-up by MSNBC under new leadership of Rebecca Kutler.

Why did MSNBC cancel Joy Reid's The ReidOut

While MSNBC hasn't cited a particular reason for cancelling Joy Reid's weeknight show, The ReidOut, the change comes under new leadership of Rebecca Kutler, who replaced former MSNBC President, Rashida Jones.

The news show was also deemed highly controversial with Joy Reid's constant criticism of white people and her focus on issues like Black Lives Matter, the Israel-Palestine conflict, and immigration. Reid has also been a critic of President Donald Trump, who celebrated the cancellation of her show by calling Reid an "obnoxious racist" on TruthSocial.

Trump posted saying:

"Lowlife Chairman of 'Concast', Brian Roberts, the owner of Ratings Challenge NBC and MSDNC, has finally gotten the nerve up to fire one of the least talented people in television, the mentally obnoxious racist, Joy Reid."

The emptied 7 p.m slot on MSNBC will be filled by a panel show co-hosted by Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez who all currently lead The Weekend. Until then, a series of different hosts will be featured on a rotational basis.
