Justin Baldoni's lawyer, Bryan Freedman, in a recent statement, accused Ryan Reynolds of trying to exit the lawsuit after Reynolds filed a motion to dismiss Baldoni's $400 million defamation suit against him on March 18.
Reynolds' lawyers, Michael Gottlieb and Esra Hudson, told The Post on March 18, that Reynolds could not have defamed Baldoni since "Mr. Reynolds genuinely believes Mr. Baldoni is a predator."
To which, Freedman in another statement responded by saying that Reynolds is:
"Arrogantly asking to be dismissed from the case despite his publicly documented involvement extending far beyond just being a "supportive spouse."
Freedman argued that the actor was a "key player" in his wife Blake Lively's alleged smear campaign against her co-star Baldoni. The lawyer also added:
"Mr. Reynolds now attempts to reduce plainly cognizable claims to 'hurt feelings,' sending a clear message that bullying is acceptable. After lighting a match, Mr. Reynolds now seeks to run from the flames. It won't work. The Wayfarer Paries' claims against him are real, and they are serious."
Freedman also mentioned that Reynolds can "appear on as many sketch shows as he wants" to "feebly try to make light of his current situation" but Baldoni and his team won't stop until Ryan Reynolds is held accountable.
Freedman was seemingly referring to Reynolds's appearance on SNL in February where he tried to joke about his legal battle with Baldoni.
Why did Ryan Reynolds file a motion to dismiss Justin Baldoni's defamation lawsuit against him?
Justin Baldoni's $400 million defamation lawsuit against Blake Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, accuses the couple of civil extortion, defamation, and invasion of privacy.
In the suit, the It Ends with Us actor, accused Reynolds of privately calling him a "s*xual predator" and attempting to get his talent agency WME to drop him. However, Ryan Reynolds' lawyers argue that the defamation lawsuit does not hold any weight, since Reynolds "genuinely believes" Baldoni to be a predator.
The lawyers also argued that it would be a defamation suit if Baldoni's team could show that Reynolds did not believe him to be a predator. They also mentioned that Blake has accused her co-star privately and in multiple complaints of s*xual harassment and retaliation.
The lawyers also cited the First Amendment noting that the actor has the "right to express his opinion" of Mr. Baldoni, and noted:
"We look forward to this lawsuit being dismissed, and to collecting on Steve Sarowitz's $100 million pledge by recovering Mr. Reynolds' costs and attorneys' fees incurred to toss this frivolous case."
Both cases in Lively v. Wayfarer Studios et al. are set to go to trial in March 2026.
