We got the teaser four months ago and a Big Game Spot a month ago; now we finally have the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning trailer. Paramount just dropped it, and fans will get to see the flashbacks for a realization of how far Tom Cruise has come as Ethan Hunt.
But it's not just Hunt; it seems like we have that Top Gun vibe in it, too, for a few moments as our wild, action-packed protagonist has an aircraft carrier with him. With him, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, and Esai Morales are returning from the previous film.
The film is said to have a $400 million budget, which makes it one of the most expensive movies to date. Star Wars: The Force Awakens remains at the top with a reported $447 million budget. Every Mission: Impossible has turned the action up a notch, and the final chapter in the main storyline might give us something more one last time.
In the franchise's last film, Ethan came across the Entity, an artificial intelligence that became sentient. Given its potential, world powers sought to get their control over it. But Ethan has the key to the Entity (literally), and he is likely to look for Sevastopol, the source of the Entity, which is sitting on the seabed of the Arctic Ocean.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning reveals a shocking truth about Ghost Protocol
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has some high-ranking officials discussing the legendary agent. There, we see Henry Czerny's Eugene Kittridge telling everyone that the Kremlin bombing in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was meant to kill him.
It seems like he is due a meeting with these high-ranking officials in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, but he is in handcuffs, which is understandable as they know how lethal he can be after reading about how he gassed a security briefing.
But all we know from what follows is that they need him to eliminate a bigger threat to "bring the world back from the brink." There's also a glimpse of a mask, which appears to be a virtual reality goggle in the form of a gas mask. It might have something to do with the Entity.
This marks half of the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning trailer; the rest is filled with high-octane action and flashbacks of him doing his thing. The most thrilling part of it is when he jumps from a plane into the ocean.
The film will be here next month, on May 23, 2025.
