Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is one of the most anticipated and talked about films of 2025. Christopher McQuarrie has written it with Erik Jendresen and it's directed by McQuarrie. The film will be released on May 23, 2025, by Paramount Pictures.
The eighth entry in the popular Mission Impossible franchise will once again showcase Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise) on a new mission. Produced by Cruise and McQuarrie, the film is a direct sequel to the 2023 film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Recent reports suggest that the upcoming action thriller might get a Cannes premiere. The film is set to premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, with its release scheduled for the second week of the event.

Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be released on May 23, 2025, by Paramount Pictures. Originally called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, the production budget of the film is around $400 million.
Variety has recently reported that the makers of the film are eyeing it to have a premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. It will be having its release during the second week of the prestigious festival.
While nothing is confirmed yet, if selected, it would help Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning get more global exposure. Cruise's earlier work, Top Gun: Maverick, was also present at the Cannes Film Festival. Reportedly, Cruise will be portraying Ethan Hunt for the last time in The Final Reckoning.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has Tom Cruise as an IMF agent. Other actors in the film include Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, and Simon Pegg, as well as Vanessa Kirby. McQuarrie gave an interview to Empire Magazine where he said,
“It is the satisfying conclusion to a 30-year story arc. I’m pretty confident that people are going to feel that the title was appropriate.”
Both McQuarrie and Cruise have not confirmed whether The Final Reckoning is the last film of the franchise or not. Cruise had earlier revealed that he passed out while doing one of the stunts. He revealed the difficulty he had while doing the stunt in the air.
“When you stick your face out, going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen. So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit.”
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning began shooting in March 2022. It was shot in several locations, including the United Kingdom, Norway, South Africa, and Malta. The franchise began in 1996 with Brian De Palma-directed action flick Mission Impossible. After that, several directors have helmed different installments in the franchise.
