Her outfit from the day was the subject of scrutiny from social media users and fashion critics alike. As seen in one of the videos from the ceremony circulated online, Donald Trump attempted to kiss Melania but couldn’t do so as her hat appeared to come in the way.

Donald Trump also joked about Melania’s hat

Donald Trump humorously commented on Melania’s large hat, mentioning how she nearly got lifted off the ground due to wind gusts and the force from the military helicopter carrying Biden from the Capitol. Melania reportedly struggled to keep her hat in place as they stepped outside.

During the inauguration ceremony, Melania sat next to her son Barron. She wore an Adam Lippes tailored navy silk wool coat, matching pencil skirt, an ivory silk crepe blouse, the signature hat, and black leather gloves.

In a statement to The New York Post, Adam Lippes expressed his pride in designing the First Lady's outfit for the presidential inauguration, highlighting it as a celebration of American democracy.

He shared that her attire was crafted by some of the best artisans in the country, showcasing their exceptional work on a global stage. The President thanked Melania in his speech as he called her an incredible First Lady. He said:

“I shouldn’t say this. I am going to get h*ll when I say this but her feet are absolutely aching, you know those heels.”

In attendance with them were Trump’s older children Ivanka, Don Jr., Eric, and Tiffany. Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, and their children Arabella, Joseph, and Theodore were also present, along with Tiffany’s husband, Michael Boulos, and Eric’s wife, Lara Trump.
