Mayci Neeley from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has a tragic personal story of losing a loved one. The 29-year-old mother of two was only 19 when she lost her first boyfriend, Arik Mack, in a car accident while they were arguing over text. She was 14 weeks pregnant with their first child at that time.

In an interview with The Mirror on August 21, 2022, the influencer discussed how her teen pregnancy created pressure on their relationship and ultimately led to their final argument. While recalling the moment she got the news, Mayci Neeley said:

“Later that day, I was scrolling through Instagram and a picture of Arik appeared on my feed. I didn’t think anything of it and continued scrolling. Then I saw another picture of him posted by a friend, with the caption, ‘I’ll miss you, Arik.’”

She continued:

“I started to shake and felt physically sick. Then I saw a photo of a car that was completely destroyed – it was Arik’s car. In total shock and disbelief, I rang his phone. ‘Please pick up,’ I begged, longing to hear his voice at the other end. It went to voicemail. My heart sank.”

In the interview, she revealed that the following months were the most challenging times of her life. Her mother was deeply concerned about her mental well-being as she craved the space to grieve. Mayci Neeley described Arik as her best friend, and his sudden absence profoundly impacted her. In 2015, she welcomed their son Hudson and resumed her university studies the following year.

Arik wanted to marry Mayci Neeley when she told him about her pregnancy

While studying at Brigham Young University in Utah on a tennis scholarship, Mayci discovered she was pregnant in February 2015. Arik was lively, funny, energetic, and unprepared for a life filled with diapers and nursery drop-offs.

However, when she shared the news with him, he said he planned to marry her before having kids. After Arik’s death, Mayci Neeley traveled to Utah for his funeral. Although Arik was in an open casket, she chose not to look at him due to the severity of his injuries. She said:

“They closed his casket and cleared the room, allowing me to say goodbye to him alone. I clutched my bump as I sat next to his coffin and spoke to him for the last time, promising that I’d tell our son all about his father one day.”

Mayci Neeley met her now-husband, Jacob, when Hudson was seven months old. He was ready to embrace the role of a father to her son. They officially got married in 2018, but their union faced some judgment from some of Mayci's social media followers.

After sharing photos from their wedding online, she received criticism from strangers who accused her of moving on too quickly and disrespecting her ex. However, she found support from her family and friends to cope with the negativity. Mayci and Jacob welcomed their daughter Harlow in 2021, and she is currently pursuing IVF for a third child.
