Maya Rudolph and Angela Bassett were among the winners at the Creative Arts Emmys 2024. Maya, best known for her hilarious roles on Saturday Night Live, took home her sixth Emmy for her voice work on Netflix's Big Mouth.

Meanwhile, Bassett won for narrating the National Geographic documentary Queens. Some of the standout moments of this night would have to be Rudolph's heartfelt acceptance speech, peppered with some humor.

She shared her appreciation for being part of Big Mouth and quipped:

"It’s making me cry because I’m very menopausal."

Bassett’s response to her first Emmy showed how much that moment meant to her:

"Oh my god, wow, my first Emmy," she exclaimed, visibly moved.

Maya Rudolph earns her sixth Emmy for Big Mouth

Maya Rudolph's Hormone Monstress in Big Mouth just won her the Best Character Voice-Over, taking her tally up to 6 at the Emmys. Rudolph's character on the show brings to life its quirky spin on puberty.

In her acceptance speech, she looked back on her experience with the show and how it has made a difference:

"I’m really proud to be a part of this show,” she said.

According to her, Big Mouth "humanizes being human." Her knack for mixing humor, emotion, and depth into the Hormone Monstress has set her apart as a voice actor.

Rudolph is up for three more awards this year, including Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Loot on Apple TV+.

Speaking about her busy year, Rudolph said backstage:

“It’s making me emotional because I get to do what I love every day.”

Angela Bassett wins her first Emmy for Queens narration

Angela Bassett took home her first-ever Emmy at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys for Queens, a wildlife documentary on National Geographic.

For Bassett, narrating Queens was more than just another gig. She resonated with it, particularly since it was produced by an all-female production team, which is a rare occurrence in wildlife documentaries.

"It just touched my heart," she explained backstage after her win.

The series explores female-dominated systems among animals, and it seemed just the right fit for Bassett. Her commanding voice, filled with strength, gave the documentary life.

"I couldn’t be more thrilled and more grateful," Bassett said in her acceptance speech.

With her first Emmy in hand, she celebrates her hard work in an industry that has begun to recognize her talent. Bassett's win comes on the heels of an incredible year that also saw her take home an honorary Oscar in 2024.

You can catch Big Mouth on Netflix. Don't miss Angela Bassett in Queens over on Disney+.
