Martin Short, 74, and Meryl Streep, 75, are DATING! Netizens are excited to see a source confirming their romance after much dating chatter.
Though Short and Streep preferred to remain clear about denying their romantic buzz, Page Six recently confirmed that they are together. It has been over a year since the couple started dating.
The insider revealed that the beautiful beginning of their relationship was "completely unexpected." In fact, it "took them by surprise."
Meryl Streep loves being around Martin Short
The legendary actress has fallen deeply for the love of her life. While spilling the tea about Meryl and Martin's relationship, the insider added:
“Meryl couldn’t help but fall for Martin. He is a gentleman, he keeps her laughing and is an all around positive person. She loves being around him.”
Interestingly, the Only Murders In The Building co-stars had no intention of being in a relationship initially.
Neither of them was "looking for a relationship when they started dating," the source disclosed.
The loving bond between them bloomed quite organically, without any rush, and they were awestruck, too.
Currently, neither Martin nor Meryl wishes to get married. They are content with the equation they share.
"Meryl is still legally married to Don but even if she were divorced, that’s just not something that she or Martin are interested in. They’re happy dating as boyfriend and girlfriend."
Family and friends of the couple "absolutely approve of their relationship and think they are adorable together."
While Meryl Streep and Don Gummer separated in October 2023, Martin Short lost his ex-wife, Nancy Dolman, in 2010 to cancer.
The insider further continued:
"Meryl and Martin have bonded over the loss of their exes."
Everything we know about Martin Short's relationship history
When the comedian met his former wife decades ago during the Godspell production in Canada, he was in a romantic relationship with Gilda Radner. However, they broke up often and finally called it quits after some time. This was when he approached Nancy right after drifting apart from his ex-girlfriend.
Recounting those days, he revealed on Where Everybody Knows Your Name With Ted Danson & Woody Harrelson podcast in 2024:
"It was fast. One day. One day, I was single. That's crazy."
Martin Short married Nancy Dolman on December 22, 1980. Unfortunately, Dolman passed away on August 21, 2010, at the age of 58, after suffering from ovarian cancer.
In 2014, Martin appeared on The Meredith Vieira Show and talked about how Nancy shared that she neither wanted a funeral nor a memorial.
While appearing on The Meredith Vieira Show in November 2014 to promote his book I Must Say: My Life As a Humble Comedy Legend, Short recounted how he and his children honored Dolman after her passing.
"She just was so irritated that she was losing this battle, she didn't want to think about it," he added.
Short and their kids kept her wishes and threw a "party with about 30 close friends and family." They cremated her and sprinkled her ashes into the water.
