Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman, dropped a new song, Life Goes On, after Lil Durk and few members of Durk's Chicago-based rap collective, Only the Family (OTF) were arrested in a murder-for-hire plot against him. The song was widely perceived as a tribute to his late cousin, who was killed in the attempted 2022 revenge killing of Rondo at a Los Angeles gas station.
The Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Durk was arrested in Florida on Thursday, October 24, 2024, over the alleged 2022 plot to kill rapper Quando Rondo at a Los Angeles gas station. However, the shooting instead claimed the life of Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab.
Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, allegedly arranged the murder to avenge the death of OTF rapper King Von. According to reports by the authorities, a friend of Rondo pulled a gun and shot Von, whose real name was Dayvon Bennett, several times at an Atlanta nightclub in 2020. However, charges against Rondo's friend were later dropped due to the self-defense stand-your-ground law in Georgia.
Two days after Lil Durk and his affiliates were arrested, Quando Rando took to Instagram to pen a lengthy message and announced the release of his new song, Life Goes On. The song has amassed over 400,000 views on YouTube. Reacting to Rondo’s ingenuity to drop a new song in the wake of Durk’s arrest, a social media user quipped:
“Marketing genius”
Another fan added: “Should get a Grammy too,” in reference to Lil Durk’s Grammy win earlier this year for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his song All My Life.
Several fans shared similar reactions:
"Is this his all my Life?" Commented one social media user
"The tribute song "Life Goes On" sounds like a meaningful way to honor his cousin's memory." Said a social media user
"Lowkey one of the most talented rappers out of them YN" Another user on X commented.
"Rip PAB." Added another user.
"Dude has a guradian angel with him, escape death twice." Said one user.
Quando Rondo breaks silence on Lil Durk's arrest
Two days after Lil Durk’s arrest, Quando Rondo broke his silence via a lengthy Instagram post that called for the end of street violence. Rondo stated it was time to leave the streets behind and focus on their rap careers. He wrote:
“We didn’t get into this music industry to make it just to stay caught up in the street s**t. We all have families and communities counting on us. It’s time to leave all that behind.”
Rondo seemingly appeared to have forgiven those involved in his cousin's killing in 2022
“We’ve already lost so much, and it’s heavy on my heart to forgive anyone I had issues with in the past. It’s all love from me. Praying for everyone.”
Rondo ended the post with the title of his new single, Life Goes On.
