The cast for Wicked: For Good is consistently dropping new information about the upcoming film, making fans even more excited about the upcoming project that will act as a continuing sequel to the 2024 blockbuster.
Director Jon M. Chu, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have shared significant details about the film, and now Marissa Bode is joining the team by updating fans on what to expect from the film.
Speaking to US Weekly, the actress said,
"Wicked 2 is definitely a lot darker in a lot of ways. So, I’m excited for that aspect of it. I’m excited to see visually because I haven’t really seen any of the footage yet how the characters have changed for good or maybe not for good. I can’t say. Not yet. I signed an NDA."
This reflects Ariana Grande's previous statement on the sequel as she hinted at the darker themes of Wicked: For Good. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress confessed that she is still recovering from the dark themes of the film. This makes fans even more excited for the project, and considering the reception the first film got, it's safe to say that the sequel will follow its predecessor's road to success as well.
More details on Wicked: For Good
Grande has previously noted that the film might explore more of the sapphic relationship between Elphaba and Glinda. Talking about the latter's sexual orientation, the actress told Variety,
“I think she’s a person who loves so much, and I do think that it goes beyond gender. I also think that the ways in which she loves Elphaba so much, and that forgiveness and that unconditional love that they share — I think they’re in love with each other."
She added,
“I know, yes, it’s platonic …But we’ll talk about it more in depth in movie two."
Apart from this, the cast has confirmed that music will be an integral part of the project. The sequel will feature all the important renditions from the Broadway version of the story and even has two entirely new songs, which Erivo hints is "very, very special."
Speaking to Variety's Award Circuit, she teased fans with the song and said,
“I don’t know if you’re ready for it. I feel like the song is very, very special. I have a feeling that even the title will move you.”
Wicked: For Good will mostly focus on the witches as they stand on different sides and explore their relationship to each other. In the original story, the plot follows as Kansas' Dorothy makes an appearance and throws a bucketful of water on Elphaba, who is fatal to water.
Wicked: For Good will hit theaters Nov. 21, 2025.
