Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi starrer Wuthering Heights has gotten its first look, and it's absolutely stunning. Warner Bros. took to social media to share a Valentine's Day surprise among fans as they dropped the release date and an artistic picture that featured Robbie's parted lips with two fingers and a bunch of grass inside her mouth. The image has created a buzz among fans on social media as they anticipate the newer adaptation of Emily Brontë's classic love story.
Although Robbie and Elordi both have received their fair share of criticizm following their casting announcement, where many pointed out their differences in age while others were unhappy with Elordi's casting as one instance in 1847 describes the hero to be dark-skinned.
The film is being directed by Emerald Fennell, who has previously worked with Elordi on the critically acclaimed Saltburn. The unusual pair of Robbie and Elordi has generated buzz among fans, who are anticipating watching a modern version of the novel, that so far has multiple adaptations on screen, stage, and television.
Fennell's unique directorial aesthetic is sure to bring something fresh to his project, and the first look is a testament to that. Principal photography for Wuthering Heights has already begun in the United Kingdom in January 2025. Linus Sandgren is the director of photography who has previously worked on Saltburn, La La Land, and Don't Look Up, among others.
What is Wuthering Heights about?
Known as one of the best love stories ever written in English, Brontë's novel follows Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, who grow up in the same house and become inseparable. As they live through their teenage and adulthood, the pair slowly grows apart as Catherine marries Edgar Linton and Heathcliff leaves the estate and goes away. While apart, Catherine still loves Heathcliff madly and gets jealous when he brings home a wife. Owing to the childbirth of her daughter and the emotional strain from her relationship with Heathcliff, Catherine dies, leaving Linton with a baby girl named Cathy (short for Catherine) who forms the second half of the story.
Wuthering Heights is a complex portrayal of love and the concept of being 'soulmates' even while being countries apart and belonging to other people. The film ends with them reuniting as ghosts after Heathcliff's death, who turns a cruel leaf after Catherine passes away and attempts to destroy the Earnshaws and the Lintons.
The 2026 adaptation features Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw; Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff; Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton, Hong Chau as Nelly Dean, and Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton.
Wuthering Heights is set to hit theaters on February 12, 2026.
