Major movie premiere events cancelled across Los Angeles owing to wildfires and hazardous winds

The recent Los Angeles wildfires are disrupting the way of life in the Southern Californian city, with multiple movie premieres and events coming to a halt until the situation comes under control. From WGA Awards nominations to several movie and TV productions have been delayed.

Studios are prioritizing the health of their staff given that the brutal scenario has claimed multiple lives amid the calamity. Thousands of people are forced to evacuate the affected regions as the fire is spreading amid the hazardous winds and dry conditions there.

As per BBC, celebrities like Paris Hilton, Adam Brody and Billy Crystal's residences, among others were reportedly destroyed.

The Critics Choice Awards, which were supposed to happen on January 12, will now be held on January 26 at the same location. The association's Chief Operating Officer, Joey Berlin, said following the event that,

This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community.

Pamela Anderson's The Last Showgirl premiere got cancelled too for which the actress landed a SAG Award nomination. Love Me's screening was delayed until the further announcement.

Other premieres experiencing the delay following the Los Angeles wildfires include Unstoppable, Wolf Man, Better Man, The Pitt, and more. Other than that, the 7th Writers Guild of America Awards nominations got a new date and will be held on February 15 now.

Many celebrities, including Star Wars' Mark Hamill, James Woods, Eugene Levy, and more, had to leave the region too. James Woods also shared a view from his home in Palisades before the fire began in the region.

Over 1200 acres of land around the Palisades Highlands were reportedly succumbed to the event. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles shared a warning on January 7 regarding windstorms too, while highlighting the areas they believed were likely to be affected.

130,000 people have received the evacuation order at the time of writing, as firefighters are hanging in there to contain the wildfire. Californian Governor Gavin Newsom said that 7,500 firefighters are on the ground to contain the threat. The regions experiencing this major catastrophe other than Palisades in the LA county include Hurst and Eaton.

The Guardian, in one of its explainers, cites the climate crisis as among the reasons for the event. Experts now believe that the shift in climate has raised the possibility of such occurrences by 25% in California.
