After dodging serious potential consequences from his assault case earlier this month and officially clearing his name of all charges, A$AP Rocky has released a new snippet that is circulating online. The short audio clip is produced by Metro Boomin and is probably from the Sundress artist’s upcoming record, Don’t Be Dumb. A$AP’s rhyme style feels more reminiscent of his earlier work on the tune, where he references his trial directly.
“I wear Armani to court, your honor/Look like John Gotti in court, your honor.”
Initial reactions to the snippet have been varied, with some strong opinions. Some social media users have even implied that it could simply be AI.
A$AP Rocky’s Don’t Be Dumb - What We Know So Far
Prior to dropping the snippet in question, and shortly before the verdict of his trial was delivered, A$AP took to X to share a cryptic message.
“DON’T BE DUMB”
Social media users were quick to attach meaning to his statement, with most netizens assuming it had to do with the results of his impending adjudication. Turns out, A$AP was actually referencing his fourth studio album.
Those in the know understand that A$AP initially revealed the project on June 21, 2024, during Paris Fashion Week. The rapper had intended for a summer 2024 release, but due to issues with sample clearances and leaks, the album was delayed.
In a subsequent interview with Billboard in August 2024, Pretty Flacko then shared that he expected Don’t Be Dumb to release in the fall due to the ongoing issues. As his legal woes reached a boiling point, and his future as a free man was uncertain, the forecast for a potential release took a turn for the worse until he was found not guilty by a jury of peers.
Now, with its release back on everyone’s radar, a frenzy of speculation appeared online about what tracks and features can be expected. As of now, 2024 releases “Highjack,” “Tailor Swift,” and “Ruby Rosary,” featuring J. Cole, appear to be part of the official tracklist alongside “Hood Happy.” Confirmed producers on Don’t Be Dumb include an impressive array of talents, ranging from longtime collaborators, current industry stalwarts, living legends, underground talents, and virtually everything in between.
Notable names potentially featuring on the composing side of the record are Metro Boomin, Tyler, the Creator, Bob-1da, Mike Dean, Swedish House Mafia, Dean Blunt, and The Alchemist, among others.
