"Look at it every time..." – Green Bay Packers draft pick Matthew Golden plans to use NFL signing bonus to buy back his grandma’s house

Matthew Golden, upon receiving his NFL signing bonus, will have a special shot at righting a past wrong in a move that his family would fondly welcome. With the 2025 NFL draft currently underway in Green Bay, Wisconsin, several touching stories have been coming about the various opportunities being afforded to members of this year’s draft class.

The transition from college to pro sports in America is unique for most of its athletes. It presents an entire class of young men and women with an incomparable earning opportunity while also giving them a chance to realize their dreams on and off the field.

The Houston native and 1st round pick overall shared his intentions in a post-draft interview conducted by Andy & Ari On3.

"Definitely get my grandma a house, man. We lost our property a couple years ago. That's somewhere I grew up when I was younger. It would be a blessing to be able to get that back for my family”

The newly minted NFL pro did not elaborate on how the property was lost but made its importance to the family clear as day.

"That's where they all grew up, that's where I grew up, so I always told myself I wanted to do that, and now I'm in a position to do it, so if it's bound to happen I'm going to make it happen.”

Thankfully, the universe has seemed to align for the Golden family, as it turns out that the residence is currently for sale.

"It’s literally for sale right now. I go back and look at it every time. I actually had a camp last week for some kids back at home and I drive down the road. That's where I grew up at."

Following the first day of this year’s draft, Golden addressed the role his grandmother played in his life at a press conference, further cementing the meaning behind purchasing back the property.

"We went through so much adversity. Just to be here and cherish that moment with her, it means everything to me. I always told her whenever I was put in a position to get it back for her, I would."

Described across the board as a talented and versatile athlete, the sky seems to be the limit for Golden’s professional career. The pervasive hope is that the young talent will be able to continue to win on the field and, more importantly, in life; one thing is for certain - he’s definitely on track.
