A remake of an Argentinian film, 4x4, Locked, will see Anthony Hopkins (William) teaching a low-life thief a lesson by trapping him in his luxurious SUV. The Avenue, who is distributing the film, has dropped the film's trailer that will give you a suffocating experience as Bill Skarsgard's character Eddie felt.
The film is directed by David Yarovesky, who is known for the superhero horror film Brightburn (2019). His other notable work remains the gem of a music video called Guardians' Inferno for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that will transport anyone to the 80s.
No other actors have been confirmed other than Hopkins and Skarsgard, where Glenn Powell was first supposed to play the thief before eventually being replaced by the latter.
Bill Skarsgard is locked in a car with Anthony Hopkins in the driver's seat
Eddie is roaming around the streets, checking out cars with open doors, giving water to a dog in one of the cars (whom he will later regret), and finally coming across one SUV with an unlocked door. This is where things start taking an interesting turn and maybe coerce Eddie into thinking that not everything free is good.
He gets a call from William while locked in the car, who slowly tells him what's happening while having fun with his rat in the trap. He tases him once too. Things start getting ugly, especially when this girl arrives and stands at Eddie's arm's length, screams for help, and the camera then shows the windows aren't transparent and soundproof.
We don't know who the story builds but given that it's a remake of 4x4, we have a healthy idea about what we can expect in this thriller. The original story was inspired by real-life events where this man, namely Roberto Desumvila, trapped a thief in his car.
4x4 sees a thief dubbed Ciro going about his daily deeds who finds this car that catches his interest. As we saw in the trailer, he is contacted by a man called Enrique, who is the owner of the car. The man has terminal cancer, which Ciro obviously doesn't care about.
While still in the car, exhausted, Ciro tells Enrique why he chose this path, which boils down to the rich trampling the poor. Both eventually meet, where Enrique explains that people like him need to intrude when the government fails to act.
The film is slated for release on March 21, 2025, and The Avenue will be distributing it.
