Bong Joon-ho's Mickey 17 has received heaps of praise upon its Berlinale premiere from audiences and critics alike. Now, Oldboy director Park Chan-wook has also weighed in on the film. He shared a high praise for Robert Pattinson's performance through this reaction:
Park Chan-wook's response roughly translates to:
"The Academy Awards should give Robert Pattinson two awards, one for Best Actor and one for Best Supporting Actor. "
Park Chan-wook is not the only filmmaker who admired this audacious project. Turns out, writer-director Edgar Wright (Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy), also spoke about the film after its Berlinale premiere. On Instagram, Wright praised Pattinson's performance, saying:
"The sci-fi eye candy is endlessly gorgeous and it's all anchored by a very charming performance (or rather, performances) from the many Robert Pattinsons."
Robert Pattinson receives high praise for his Mickey 17 performance from Legendary director Park Chan-wook

Mickey 17 marks director Bong Joon-ho's return to English-language films after 2017's Okja and 2013's Snowpiercer. It is also his follow-up to his Palme d'Or-winning Parasite, which was recently re-released in IMAX, in celebration of the 5th anniversary of its historic Oscar win.
With the new film, the director returns to his satirical routes to follow a disposable employee tasked with colonizing a planet. It shows Robert Pattinson's character, Mickey Barnes, regenerating each time he dies - while working on his dangerous mission. Eventually, he finds himself in a precarious situation as two of his clones co-exist.
Robert Pattinson mainly plays a dual role as Mickey's 17th and 18th variants, who are pitted against each other by the oppressive colony leaders. The Batman actor has been getting a lot of praise for his hysterical performance.
When talking about Pattinson's work, Ben Croll from The Wrap notes:
"Playing off himself as two clones with wildly different temperaments...the actor [Pattinson] has an innate feel for the dopey comic sensibility that his film-literate director might trace back to Jerry Lewis, and enough screen presence to easily delineate his two characters when both are seamlessly composed into the same shot."
On the other hand, Tim Grierson from Screen International says:
"Pattinson has fun playing the Mickeys...but it’s his performance as Mickey 17 that gives this sci-fi picture its resonance. Dying over and over, our hero just wants to make sure his soul survives; Pattinson locates it from the first frame."
Filmmaker Park Chan-wook (Decision to Leave) also has nothing but praise for Robert Pattinson's performance in Mickey 17. He jokingly notes that Pattinson deserves a nomination in the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories at the upcoming Academy Awards.
Robert Pattinson and Bong Joon-ho fans can catch Mickey 17 upon its theatrical release on March 7 in the United States.
