Leanna Lenee and Travis Hunter, the University of Colorado Boulder football star and Heisman Trophy winner, are at the receiving end of nonstop online criticism, not because of his remarkable athletic accomplishments but rather over their relationship.
The drama began after a clip emerged from the Heisman Trophy ceremony in which Lenee appeared to be sitting stoically. What followed was heavy criticism of her demeanor on social media.
Travis Hunter responded to the backlash by calling out critics during a Twitch livestream, defending both Lenee and the couple's five-year relationship. During the stream he said:
“Find someone else to talk about, go talk about your girl. Go find a girl. Go find a life. Stop worrying about what I got going on. I know what I got. “My girl been with me for five years.”
After the ceremony, Lenee was hurt deeply by the online comments, and Hunter said she cried herself to sleep because of it (New York Post). Hunter also said something bad would happen if people kept trolling the couple.
“Y’all are just now starting to talk about me… y’all go do something else with y’all life. Clickbait pages stop, y’all better stop I’m telling y’all. Something bad is gonna happen to y’all keep doing that. Y’all better stop that. I ain’t playing.”
Travis Hunter's Girlfriend Responds to Criticism Amid Rapper Bow Wow's Reaction
After the viral moments, Lenee made a TikTok video to share her story and clarify what happened during the Heisman ceremony mobile. Her initial instinct that day had been not to get up because she had seen that Travis Hunter’s mother had not, either (E! online).
She also said she was purposely staying away from the camera so that Hunter and his family could have their moment. Lenee responded by saying:
"No one told me to stand up, no one had to tell me to celebrate with him. I was just sitting there crying, I wanted to take it in—I was super excited for him."
Travis Hunter and Lenee’s relationship became the subject of discussion yet again when a parody Instagram account made false claims that Lenee had left flirtatious comments on a post by the N.B.A. star Anthony Edwards.
An article by Hot New HipHop reported that Rapper Bow Wow, apparently falling for the phony post, joined in to give unasked advice for Hunter not to marry Lenee. The rapper opened up about his thoughts in a video where he said:
“There’s no reason for your fiancée to be commenting on another man’s page with heart eyes and money emojis,That’s not how fiancées behave. Wake up, young brother.”
Even after learning that the post was fabricated, the rapper doubled down and suggested that Travis Hunter rethink his engagement.
