What is Last Take: Rust And The Story Of Halyna about?
Last Take: Rust And The Story Of Halyna focuses on the 2021 shooting accident that took place on the sets of the western drama film Rust leading to the death of Halyna Hutchins. The documentary features Rachel Mason, a close friend of Hutchins, as she speaks about the tragic incident and losing someone close.
The film features several behind-the-scenes moments from Rust, as well as public records of the case. There are also private archives from Hutchins' family that are used in the film to tell her side of the story.
On October 21, 2021, the filming of Rust was underway in New Mexico on a set. Alec Baldwin was using a prop gun. At one point, he ended up discharging a live round, which ended up killing the film's DP, Halyna Hutchins, and injuring the film's director, Joel Souza. The cast was investigated, and in 2023, Baldin, along with armor Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was charged with manslaughter.
While Hannah received an 18-month prison sentence, Baldwin's case was dropped due to prejudice. Rust was eventually shot and finished; it had its world premiere at the Camerimage festival in 2024. Baldwin stated that he refused to watch the film. The profits from the film are going to Hutchins's widower, Matthew, and their son, per a settlement, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
