At last month’s 67th annual Grammy Awards, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars both went home with some hardware, with their smash hit ‘Die with a Smile’ being named the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Aside from their big win, the two musicians also performed a unique rendition of ‘California Dreamin,’ originally by The Mamas & The Papas, in tribute to the current devastation in Los Angeles due to the wildfires.

‘Die with a smile’ has now hit another significant milestone on the heels of the Grammy win. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ joint effort has now officially broken the record as the longest-running #1 hit in daily global Spotify history. Social media users were quick to notice.

The Grammy-winning tune supplants the previous title holder, Tones And I’s ‘Dance Monkey.’ You can watch the official video for ‘Die with a Smile’ below.

‘Die with a Smile’ Rising Still

Spotify is not the only place the song is seeing critical success and a fervently positive response. According to Billboard, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ ‘Die with a Smile’ rebounded to claim the number one spot atop their Hot 100 songs chart for a fifth total week. Gaga, for her part, has had 5 previous chart-topping singles, while Mars had 8. Gaga is also nearing a tie for her longest stay at the top of the mountain, with ’Born this Way’ claiming the pole position for six weeks back in 2011.

This will be the third time Mars will have a chart-topper for five weeks or more, a wildly impressive feat. It truly has been quite a run for him, as he also recently became the first artist to reach 150 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Lady Gaga Continues to Trend

This past Grammys was significant for Gaga apart from what’s already been mentioned, as she used the platform to premiere her new single. Gaga, however, did not perform ‘Abracadabra’ as expected, choosing instead to air the music video as a commercial during the broadcast. The already hit single was made available to stream shortly thereafter.

'Abracadabra' is the second single off Mayhem, Gaga's eagerly anticipated eighth studio album. She has described the upcoming project as

"The album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved.”

She then likened her creative process to fixing a shattered mirror.

"Even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can create something beautiful and whole in its own new way.”
