Kendrick Lamar has undoubtedly been one of the most influential artists over the past year. He engaged in a war with the biggest artist on the planet and won resoundingly. He united the fragmented West Coast hip-hop scene, demanding better and more from upcoming artists. He had the song of the year ‘Not Like Us,’ and he won four Grammys, taking his total to an astounding 22.
Now, an unexpected source has given the chart-topping single even more notoriety with the assertion that it may even save lives.
As expected, social media users were quick to respond and did so in a hilarious fashion:
"Killing careers and saving lives," a user noted.
‘Not Like Us’ May Save Your Life
The basis of this claim made by the American Health Association is that the track’s beat has a tempo of 101 beats per minute the right tempo for hands-only CPR. This is a form of CPR without using the mouth-to-mouth breathing component.
As per American Heart Association:
"It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an "out-of-hospital" setting. It consists of two easy steps: Call 911 and Push Hard & Fast."
The irony here is not lost on the masses. Kendrick’s diss, intended to proverbially ‘kill’ his rival and summarily win him the beef, can also be used to save someone in case of a real emergency. As a result, the reactions continue to come pouring in:
"Well it’s just the gift that keeps on giving," an X user wrote.
"We have never seen a W like this in rap (at least i haven’t)," another netizen reacted.
"Coming back from the dead and everyone in the room singing “A Minor” is crazy," a user opined.
About IMPACT x Nightline's Kendrick v. Drake: The Feud
The fallout of their feud continues to be dissected and will be further explored as part of the IMPACT x Nightline: Kendrick v. Drake: The Feud episode coming to streaming via Hulu on February 6. Before its release, an exclusive clip from the show dropped featuring rapper Too $hort. He can be seen speaking openly about the beef and even comparing them to Bill Gates and Elon Musk. Two uber-successful people going to war, but still being okay once all is said and done.
"Was it Drake, Kendrick, J. Cole, a couple names up there — who’s the new top five? Amongst them, each one of their egos had to think ‘I’m the best writer, I do the best videos, I rock the crowd the best. It’s still the equivalent of Bill Gates and Elon Musk fistfighting. Two billionaires, who cares who gets knocked the f–k out? They going home to billionaire lifestyles. It’s still the same thing.” Too $hort told ABC News.
IMPACT x Nightline's Kendrick v. Drake: The Feud will touch on several aspects of the beef, from their relationship prior to when it began, the diss tracks released, and the outcome of Drake’s lawsuit against Universal Music Group.
