Even before Lamar's Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, Pusha T had voiced his support and admiration for Kendrick Lamar, while simultaneously throwing a shade at Drake. When Lamar was announced as the performer for this year, the "Mercy" rapper shared a line on his Instagram story from Lamar's teaser video:
"Only one opportunity to win a championship. No round twos,” and added the caption, “This is true,”
Last year, during a panel at 2024 Revolt World, Pusha T once again showed his support of the singer being chosen to perform at the Super Bowl.
"I’m sure people have said and have told him his whole career, ‘You rap good. You’re great, but you rap too much. You need to make a song like this. You need to do that.’ It’s amazing to watch him be exactly who he is, the lyric king," Pusha T explained.
The "If You Know You Know" singer further elaborated:
"People who never even listen to lyrics are reciting his freestyles, battles, [and] songs. It’s great to watch,” he continued. “It’s great for what it is we do in lyric-driven Hip Hop.”
