Ke Huy Quan made a triumphant return to the big screen in 2022 with his role in the unexpected mega-hit, Everything, Everywhere All at Once. He has since appeared in the second season of Loki in a supporting role. His performance also earned him a nomination at the People’s Choice Awards.

Deadline has just reported on his newest role, in the upcoming Bad Boy. Notably, it will mark his debut in the horror genre. The film is also set to star Lili Reinhart as a co-lead. She is best known for her role as Betty Cooper on the CW’s genre-defining teen drama Riverdale. More recently she starred in Hustlers and the Sundance-premiered limited series Hal & Harper co-starring Mark Ruffalo.

Bad Boy - What we know so far

The film’s director, Jacob Chase, spoke recently about Bad Boy’s zany premise and what we can expect.

“Gary is a good boy who loves his new owner, Cameron (Ke Huy Quan). He gets treats and belly rubs and life is great. Gary isn’t allowed in the basement though. And even if he was, he can’t unlock doors. But there’s a girl (Lili Reinhart) in the basement. And she can’t come out to play. Gary doesn’t know it, but he’s her only chance.”

He added:

“I love dogs. More than people. And I’m tired of seeing horror movies where the dog is the first one to die!” said director Chase “They’re not just pets, they’re our best friends, and I believe it’s time for a horror film where the dog is the hero. Bad Boy is about loyalty, instinct, and the incredible bond between humans and dogs. It’s going to be a highly original, grounded, deeply suspenseful fresh take on a horror thriller. And I’m thrilled to collaborate with Ke and Lili on two roles unlike anything they’ve played before.”

Casting for the movie has almost been rounded out, except the eponymous dog who is expected to be a terrier. International rights to the film are currently held by Black Bear Pictures, a media company that develops, produces, and finances original content for film and television. Dave Caplan, who also collaborated on the 2024 horror film Longlegs, will spearhead a group of seasoned producers that also includes Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath who worked on M3gan.
