Kanye West, Jamie Foxx, Russell Simmons, and others send tribute to Irv Gotti as famed producer dies at 54

Murder Inc. Records founder, Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., aka Irv Gotti, died on February 5, 2025, at 54. The exact cause of death is unknown when writing the story. Nonetheless, Gotti suffered a stroke in 2024 and had diabetes-related health problems according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After the news of his death went viral, singers and musicians from the industry posted their tributes across social media platforms. Kanye West shared a screenshot of the headline from Variety on his Instagram and captioned it with a dove emoji.

Similarly, actor and comedian Jamie Foxx seems to have shared his tribute to Irv Gotti over an Instagram comment. As per reports, he wrote:

“Wow rest in power my brother. Your music and your legacy will never be forgotten.... Irv you have spread a lot of love and a lot of wisdom to everyone that you met rest up.!”

Entrepreneur and record executive Russell Simmons also posted his tribute to the late producer in an Instagram post. Sharing a photo with him, Simmons wrote:

“Brothers and Sisters Please dont let Irv Gotti go without acknowledging the tragedy of his death and of black men’s and womens health in America This talented , beautiful, happy, curious enthusiastic spirit has left his body way too soon im sure God will recieve him with love and freedom To the black men and women of america who still fqce this crisis.”

Reflecting on Irv Gotti’s passing, he described him as a beautiful soul gone too soon. Simmons expressed concerns about chronic illnesses being linked to poor diet and self-care, emphasizing that certain communities are affected at a faster rate. However, he noted a growing shift towards healthier lifestyles, with many embracing veganism and natural remedies.


Irv Gotti was on life support

Russell Simmons had previously shared a post mentioning that Gotti was on life support and that friends and family had been saying their goodbyes. Reports also suggest from AllHipHop that he suffered a stroke recently that deteriorated his health. Simmons prayed for his full recovery.

Actor Tyrin Turner took to his Instagram on February 5, 2025, and shared a photo of Gotti writing:

“Rest well my ni**a!!!! Always solid with me life is tough…hate this man!!!”

Rapper 50 Cent shared his tribute in a unique way. He shared a photo of himself smoking beside a gravestone marked "RIP" with a caption on Instagram that read:

“I’m smoking on dat Gotti pack, nah God bless him. LOL”

Irv Gotti had a remarkable influence on hip-hop and R&B. He collaborated with artists like Ja Rule, Ashanti, and DMX, and helped them achieve success.

His signature style mixed hip-hop beats with melodic hooks, leading to chart-topping hits such as I’m Real and Ain’t It Funny with Jennifer Lopez, as well as Always on Time with Ja Rule and Foolish with Ashanti.


According to Variety, while speaking on Drink Champs, he talked about how diabetes gradually damages the body. Irv Gotti mentioned using insulin occasionally but admitted that he wasn’t managing his condition properly. He is survived by his children, mother, and siblings.
