Jonathan Majors back in the MCU? All you need to know

Marvel Studios strikes again with a massive bombshell that has sent a ripple through almost every news feed across social media. This comes after Kevin Feige is said to be considering bringing Jonathan Majors back into the MCU, sources said.

The thought process here is that the MCU would largely benefit from Majors reprising his role, to tie up the loose ends created when his character was summarily scrapped from the future plans. This would close Kang’s storyline, and add a sense of cohesion to the recent slate of Marvel fare.

It is openly known that Feige and the studio restructured their plans following Kang’s planned exit, even converting Avengers: The Kang Dynasty into Avengers: Doomsday. As of now, Majors' Kang is to be replaced by Robert Downey Jr., who will be playing Doctor Doom after spending 11 years in the MCU portraying fan-favorite Iron Man.

Majors' Trouble

Early in his Marvel tenure Jonathan Majors was set up to be the next overarching MCU villain. A force even more threatening and deadly to the fabric of the universe’s reality than even Thanos, who was inimitably played by Josh Brolin. He would portray Kang the Conqueror, and his arc would be introduced and weeded out over several appearances that were scheduled to culminate with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

In 2023, however, everything changed. The actor who was on course for a meteoric rise was convicted of assault by a former partner, and everything almost instantly came crashing down.

In the wake of the accusations leading to his conviction, the studio was in a tough position. His character Kang was central to their plans but his disturbing actions coming to light meant that the studio would have no choice but to move on.

While recasting the role was on the table it did not seem like a palatable enough option to the studio, so instead, they reformulated their entire future slate of plans. Even then, the impact of Majors’ character was simply too hard to ignore in the context of their future outlook and they are now hoping to include the embattled star in order to acknowledge the importance of his character’s storyline to MCU lore.
