Morgan Wallen is a popular country singer who recently made news for leaving the stage of Saturday Night Live while the credits were rolling. The 31-year-old singer also turned down the offer to appear in a sketch in the SNL episode of March 29, 2025, as a musical guest.

As confirmed by People, SNL had scheduled Morgan Wallen for a pre-shot sketch called Big Dumb Line. The singer, however, declined the offer and was replaced by Joe Jonas.

Kenan Thompson on Wallen's sudden exit

Breaking a long-time ritual of the show, Morgan did not hug or shake hands with the cast or crew when the episode ended. Wallen gave his regards to the host Mikey Madison and rushed off the stage. After some time, Wallen posted a picture of him on his private jet with the caption: 'Get Me to God's Country.'

A veteran of the comedy show, Kenan Thompson spoke to Entertainment Weekly in an interview about Wallen's rushed exit from the Saturday Night Live stage. Thompson said that he was just as confused as everybody else about Wallen's exit. Thompson told the outlet:

"I don't know what goes through people's minds when they decide to do stuff like that, I don't know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way."

He continued by saying that people normally say 'Hi!' or 'Good Job' before leaving the stage and that Wallen's exit was a deviation from the norm.

"We’re so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody's saying, 'Good job, good job, good job.' So when there’s a departure from that, it's like, hmm, I wonder what that’s about?"

Notably, Wallen confirmed with Variety that he had a great time on Saturday Night Live and had no intentions of hurting anyone and that his Instagram post was a general one with no hidden meaning. A source told the publication that Wallen did not put much thought before leaving the stage and catching his plane.

The last time Wallen appeared on a sketch on Saturday Night Live was in 2020. Two months earlier, Wallen was uninvited from the show because of a controversy. Photographs circulating showed the musician breaking COVID-19 protocols by kissing mutliple women and partying in Alabama.

The sketch was shot in a bar and featured future versions of Wallen warning him for not breaking protocols in the future.

The topic of the sketch revolved around New York City's favorite activity — waiting in long queus to try out popular food items like pizza, cronuts, Greek Yogurts and more. Joe Jonas sang in the sketch:

“Believe in yourself, believe in the line/You deserve this viral Greek yogurt or to try Lisa Rinna's wine/So don’t give up/The rewards will be splendid/Did Amelia Earhart give up?/I’m not sure how that ended”

In the sketch, Jonas was seen in an all white outfit and was singing satirical tunes.
