Former US President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, were in attendance at Barrymore Theatre's premiere in New York City for the opening night of Othello on Broadway on March 23. It marked Joe and Jill's first public appearance since their White House exit before Donald Trump's inauguration this year.
While Joe flaunted a tuxedo, Jill donned a sleek teal dress, and the couple posed for a photo on a Manhattan rooftop. Jill posted the picture on her Instagram account with the caption, "Date Night!"
The new Broadway production of William Shakespeare's Othello stars Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal. The play has broken records by making $2.8 million in a single week. The production is slated to run until June 2025. The play has become the top-grossing play in Broadway history after Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which grossed $2.7 million in a week.
As per The Guardian, Orchestra-level advance tickets to the show run between $216 and $921 depending on the seat. The Post's Broadway critic Johnny Oleksinski was uninvited from the play in early March after he wrote a column complaining about the expensive tickets.
Oleksinski noted that the show "took back" his ticket, claiming there was "no availability," but mentioned that The Post bought their own ticket instead and questioned if the play was worth the exorbitant price.
Jill and Joe Biden want to come back to politics
After almost two months of ending his term as US President, Joe Biden has expressed his desire to help out the Democratic party. As per NBC, Joe told some Democratic leaders that he'll raise funds, campaign, and help the party during a private meeting with the new Democratic National Committee chairman, Ken Martin, last month.
His wife, Jill, also wants to campaign and raise money for the Democrats to regain lost ground. However, Democrats might not agree with Joe and Jill. A Democrat strategist, while speaking to Fox News, said that Joe's "time has passed,"
"As far as Biden's position within the current state of the Democratic Party, I think his time is over. I think his time has passed. The train has sort of moved on."
A source, as per the New York Post, said that Joe and Jill "can't raise money either way," and another Biden alum suggested that Joe should enjoy retirement "at the beach in Rehoboth," adding that "no voter wants to hear from him." This person who chose to stay anonymous also called Joe "delusional and arrogant to think that he can be a value add to the Democratic Party."
