In the latest development, Joe Gatto has voluntarily entered an inpatient facility to reflect on himself and his past behavior, according to People Magazine. Earlier this month, the comedian was accused of sexual misconduct by two women, one of them being a former employee.
In his exclusive interview with People Magazine, the Impractical Jokers star confirmed his decision to seek treatment, and expressed his gratitude for the support system around him.
"Having taken some time to reflect, I've decided to voluntarily enter an inpatient program to continue working on myself. I just want to thank my friends, fans and especially my family for all of their support — never more so than over the last few days."
Joe Gatto also stated that he will be cancelling his current Let's Get into It comedy tour amidst the allegations. He was scheduled to perform in San Antonio, Texas on 27 March.
A closer look at the allegations levied against Joe Gatto
Joe Gatto, one half of the five-member group of lifelong friends known as the "Impractical Jokers," was first accused on 20 March by a woman on TikTok, who claimed the comedian had s*xually assaulted her.
The woman, who goes by the username joozyb on the platform, detailed how she met Gatto in 2023 when he was performing in Milwaukee. She added that prior to the show, they had already been in contact through Instagram. She further alleged that Gatto later invited her to his hotel room, where the incident took place.
"I was drunk, whatever, and he was texting me all this stuff. And, like, it was starting to get a little weird, you know?”
She added:
"Yes he did S.A me. yes he had JUST gotten back together with his wife. I’m sorry you guys don’t want to hear it but,"
The woman, in her now deleted posts, had shared pictures of her with the comedian, along with screenshots of their conversation.
Two days later, Gatto released a statement to Page Six, denying the allegations but he admitted to using "poor judgement" in the past.
"I have used poor judgment and as a result have violated the trust of the people I love most. But anyone who knows me at all knows full well that I wouldn’t assault anyone."
He further added:
"Working on myself is an ongoing process, and I am now going to take some time away from the public eye to focus my energies where I need to.”
Soon after this, another woman, a former employee came forward with allegations of s*xual harrasment against the Misery Index actor.
In her statement to People Magazine, the woman claimed that the comedian exhibited "flirtatious" and "unwanted behaviors." In her allegations, the woman, who has not been identified, claimed that Gatto also asked her for "back massages" and frequently "inquired about her personal life".
She also alleged that she started working under the comedian after graduating from college, and was previously warned by another employee about his behaviour. She also stated that whenever she refused his advances, "Gatto would be rude to her the following day at work."
Joe Gatto is married to Bessy Gatto. The two were married for thirteen years before splitting in 2022, but the couple reconciled back in 2023. The couple share two children.
