Jessica Simpson and her husband Eric Johnson announced their separation after a decade of unity. The couple issued a joint statement to People Magazine, asking for privacy as they navigate this "painful situation."
The actress cum singer and her husband, formerly an NFL player, first met in 2010. Four years later, they got hitched, and during their time together, they welcomed three children together: daughter Maxwell, 12, son Ace, 11, and daughter Birdie, five. In a statement to People Magazine, the couple said:
"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage. Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."
A quick look at Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson's marriage as the two reveal they are now living separately
Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson first started dating in May 2010, and by July 2010, a source confirmed the same to People Magazine. Reflecting on the beginning of her relationship with Johnson, Simpson penned in her 2020 memoir Open Book:
"We connected on all levels. We both were ready for the real deal," she said, recalling how she met him at a party.
By October of that year, Simpson had declared herself "in love." Speaking to People Magazine, she said:
"As far as Eric and I go, we're just best friends. He's my dude! I love him. This [relationship] is just normal, thank God. He's very, very supportive. [I] couldn't ask for a better man in my life right now."
In November 2010, the outlet confirmed that the pair had gotten engaged. By October of the following year, Jessica Simpson revealed her pregnancy, and by May 2012, she gave birth to their first child, daughter Maxwell. She announced the news on her website:
"Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson. We are grateful for all the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!"
A few months later, in December 2012, the pair announced that they were expecting again, and by January 2013, talks of a wedding were going on. During her interview on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Simpson shared:
"We've had two wedding dates, but he keeps knocking me up!" she joked. "I'm doing it very backwards, I know."
They welcomed their son Ace in June 2013, and they tied the knot in July the following year. They hosted a lavish party for over 250 guests, including Jessica Alba and Cash Warren.
Come September 2018, the couple revealed they were expecting again. Jessica Simpson would go on to deliver the child in May 2019. Exactly a year later, Simpson took to Instagram to share a photo of her and Johnson smiling ear to ear as they celebrated their 10th dating anniversary.
Over the years, the two have celebrated several milestones, including anniversaries and birthdays. However, signs of trouble in paradise first emerged in November 2024, when Johnson was spotted without his wedding ring.
Speculations about a rift in their marriage began, given that Jessica Simpson was also spotted without her ring in December.
At the time of writing, the exact reason for their separation remains unknown. Their last Instagram post that depicts the family together dates back to March 31, 2024, when they celebrated Easter Sunday.
