Things might be stranger than expected for Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd, according to the new trailer for Death Of A Unicorn.

The first trailer for this A24 film was released back in December 2024. It introduced the audience to the central conflict and showed who and what caused the death of the unicorn. Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd appear as the father-daughter duo who hit the unicorn on their way to an uber-rich pharmaceutical CEO's nature retreat. They try to hide this accident but to no avail.

The unicorn happens to have some unique healing properties. So, the wealthy family hops on the opportunity to mint money from it. However, it might put them in more harm than good.

Now, the newly-released trailer shows what causes that harm. It's not just a single unicorn that they need to fight as more unicorns come out of the woodwork and make their lives a living hell. Now, they fight for their survival instead of the other way around. Even as it happens, a Leopold family member says,

"We have a moral imperative to harvest every last one."

Will they survive, or won't they? The audience can find the answers from March 28.

Death Of A Unicorn is a part of A24's upcoming slate of films, which includes Ayo Edebiri-led Opus, Timothée Chalamet-led Marty Supreme, and Tim Robinson-led Friendship. It will premiere at the SXSW (South by Southwest) film festival on March 8 and will be theatrically released shortly after. Its official synopsis, per SXSW, reads:

"A father and daughter accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties."

The trailer promises an absurd horror-comedy, much like the studio's past offerings. So, it doesn't come as a surprise that the trailer introduces A24 as the studio that brought Michelle Yeoh-led Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Death Of A Unicorn is written and directed by Alex Scharfman, known for his work as a producer on 2019's Blow the Man Down, 2016's Women Who Kill, and 2022's Ressurection. Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar) serves as one of the producers of this upcoming film.

Wednesday star Jenna Ortega and Ant-Man star Paul Rudd lead the film as the father-daughter duo. The rest of the cast includes Will Poulter (Midsommar), Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Sunita Mani (Spirited), Anthony Carrigan (Barry), Téa Leoni (Madam Secretary), Stephen Park (The French Dispatch), and Jessica Hynes (Spaced).

Death Of A Unicorn will be theatrically released on March 28, 2025, after its SXSW premiere on March 8.
